Title: The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion (Series)
Author: Beth Brower
Heart Rating: 5/5
This series was a hook, line and sinker for me. Sigh. I am in love.
I received the first journal as a birthday gift from my future mother-in-law, and I ended up ordering the rest of the series as soon as I completed it. I binged it all in less than a month. It’s that good.
Beth Brower created the most delightful, quirky Victorian world, and I hope you check it out for yourself. The main character is a lovely young woman named Emma M. Lion and you get the privilege of following her life’s adventures through her detailed journals. She is simply wonderful. On top of it, she is surrounded by divine friends. I feel like Emma would use the word divine here.
I would describe the series a cross between Jane Austen and Gilmore Girls. Or a cross between The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Hart of Dixie. If you like clever dialogue, Victorian balls, deep imagery, powerful friendships and slow burn love, then this book series is for you.
And if Beth Brower ever reads this – I’m with Islington.
